Session format: Round table discussion and analyzing anecdotal experiences

This workshop will focus on the role of relationships between communities, educators, and researchers to cultivate equitable conditions for addressing the needs of Indian Country. Speakers will address topics of respect, reciprocity, benefits of collaboration (to both Tribes and universities), cultural and communicative competencies, and thinking about the tensions in time frames and community and researcher needs. Attendees will walk away with ideas for beginning, continuing, or deepening good relationships to support tribal sovereignty and self-determination. The workshop will look at ongoing Tribal and university partnerships/allyship supporting Indigenous educators post teacher in-service and the importance of maintaining long lasting relationships. Speakers will look at how these relationships are fostered and directly impact American Indian Education.
