Logo (Artwork)

We want to thank Ms. Paula TopSky Houtz, the graphic designer who created our beautiful logo. Paula is Shoshone-Bannock and Chippewa Cree and the owner of WhiteKnife Designs. According to Paula, the image represents the fact that “We as Indigenous people are waking up and healing.”

The Water in the middle flows toward and into the university, and it stems from Indigenous knowledge. Paula writes that the logo is a nod to the SBT whose lands Idaho State University benefits from operating on.

The Sun rising in the background represents the dawn of understanding and connectedness.

The Feathers surrounding the logo represent a war shield, and the bravery and courage it takes to address challenging topics toward change against deep-seated generational prejudice and trauma and the bravery and courage it takes to be open to change.
