Session format: Introduction to Topic, followed by Round-Table discussion/activity, ending with whole group debriefing.
This session focuses on understanding different types of collaborative research engagement. Speakers will discuss the difference between researcher-initiated projects vs. community-initiated projects, with special attention to levels of community engagement and its importance when approaching projects with Indigenous peoples. Attendees will learn about various approaches to collaborative research with communities and, through case studies, practice re-designing standard research approaches to better support Indigenous self-determination.
